“It’s a special place
at the edge of the lake
that keeps me from growing old.”

Camp Huronda changes lives…
Non-profit camp for children with diabetes,
provides friendships and builds self-esteem.

Overnight camp is a special time for children. The experience of being away from home, spending time in the wilderness, enjoying the camaraderie of counselors and fellow campers along with participating in sports, waterfront activities, and evening campfires creates special memories that often last a lifetime.

Camp Huronda helps children share similar experiences with others, creates healthy habits and builds self-esteem. It is at camp that many children learn how to give themselves insulin injections for the first time as well as learn about various injection sites, develop effective blood monitoring skills and carbohydrate counting. Through various camp experiences, children learn how to manage their diabetes successfully, which contributes greatly to delaying and lowering their risk of complications.

Camp Huronda, established in 1971 is located on the shores of Lake Waseosa near Huntsville. Employing professional staff, comprised of medical professionals who donate their holidays, this superb 110-acre facility for children with diabetes aged 8-15 offers day and evening programs that ensures each child enjoys a summer of fun, activities, new skills and health.

Given the scope of outdoor living one would tend to think camp life is only geared towards healthy children. But each year, for the last 25 years, 300 children living with diabetes attend Camp Huronda each summer and have been able to enjoy the outdoors and all that summer has to offer.

We are proud partners!

Our Results:
Since 1999, DHF has provided the following support:

- Waterfront reconstruction and improvements

“The Diabetes Hope Foundation and supporters need to be commended for their acts of kindness.
As a result of your events, you provided Camp Huronda with well-needed docks for our waterfront. The new docks will really make a difference to Camp Huronda.” - Jeff Yolleck, Camp Huronda Committee

  • Partnered with the building of the new camp infirmary – Insul-Inn
  • Constructed the new living accommodations for the medical staff - Nurses Nest

“This year we had a very real risk of not being able to operate. With your kind gift, Camp Huronda was able to quickly resolve the issues. The new residence addressed the issue of accommodating the nurses and provided an accommodation appropriate for medical staff in a camp environment. The Diabetes Hope Foundation’s generous donation has had an immediate positive effect, as well as being a significant factor in Camp Huronda’s future. We can’t thank you enough for your generous support in making Camp Huronda an even better place!” - Manuela Dalla Nora, Camp Huronda Committee

  • Provide financial assistance to lower income families to allow their children attend camp
  • Renovations to the Doctor’s cabins
